Spring is here and so are the next reading programs at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, 702 E. Front Ave.
“Storytime With a Twist 2” begins March 25 in the Seagrave Children’s Library on the Parkside Level and continues through May 30.
The free spring programs include:
* Book Babies Lap-Sit: For children ages newborn to 2 accompanied by a parent or other adult caregiver, Tuesdays 10:15-10:45 a.m., and Fridays 10:30-11 a.m.
* Tales for Twos and Threes: For ages 2-3, Tuesdays 11-11:30 a.m.
* Preschool Storytime: For ages 3-5, Tuesdays 1:30-2 p.m. Wednesdays 10:30-11 a.m.
* Extreme Readers & Paws to Read: For ages 5-8, Wednesdays, 4-5 p.m. Families can also schedule one-on-one time for their children to practice reading with Ginger the therapy dog. Contact Youth Services to schedule time.
Programs offer stories, poems, songs, experiments, crafts and other age-appropriate activities.
The Book Club – a book discussion group for ages 9-13 – will have a slightly later starting date. Area Boy Scouts interested in pursuing the Reading Merit Badge may do so by contacting David Townsend, Library Communications Coordinator at Ext. 426 or by e-mail at dtown@cdalibrary.org. The merit badge involves reading a variety of different kinds of fiction and nonfiction books and other materials and completing service time at a library or as part of a literacy program.
The deadline to submit entries in the 20th annual Writers Competition is March 31. The competition is for unpublished fiction and nonfiction prose of 2,000 words or less. Participants compete in age groups ranging from 6 years old to adult. Entry forms and rules are available at the library and can be downloaded at http://www.cdalibrary.org/Events/FORM-WritersCompetition.pdf.
